Global Water Supplies - 3% Fresh Water
Global Water Supplies include only 3% Fresh Water -- all the rest is salt or brackish water.
Of all the freshwater on Earth, only about 0.3 percent is contained
Over 96% of the world's total water supply (about 326 million cubic miles) is saline. And, of total freshwater, over 68% is locked up in ice and glaciers. Another 30 percent of freshwater is in the ground. Surface-water sources, such as rivers, only constitute about 300 cubic miles (about 1/10,000 th of one percent of total water). It makes sense that we protect and recycle the fresh water that we have easy access to! It seems a waste to use fresh water to transport waste materials! Maybe we need to look at other options for transporting human waste -- such as composting toilets. And to fully develop the recycling of potable water. Fresh water is truly our most precious natural resource!
